The Hugo Concert Series Presents Piano Duo, Genova & Dimitrov, 3/2

On Sunday 2 March, the highly acclaimed international piano duo, Genova & Dimitrov, will dazzle Cape Town with virtuoso four hands/one piano playing.

In a much anticipated return to Cape Town, the highly acclaimed international piano duo, Genova & Dimitrov, will once again dazzle with their virtuoso four hands / one piano playing on Sunday 2 March. The performance marks the first concert presented by the Hugo Concert Series this year. Described as "the piano duo of the younger generation", pianists Aglika Genova and Liuben Dimitrov have established a stellar reputation as two of the world's most highly regarded musicians.

The concert takes place at the magnificent Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow and starts at 15h30. Before interval the duo will play Johannes Brahms' charming 16 Waltzes (op. 39) and Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No.1 (op. 46). After interval, Gabriel Fauré's Dolly Suite (op. 66), Francis Poulenc's Sonata for Piano (1918) and Maurice Ravel's electrifying Rapsodie Espagnole will follow.

This highly sought-after international piano duo was formed in Hanover in 1995 and since then, Genova and Dimitrov have scooped all the major piano duo competitions, including the 1996 ARD Music Competition in Munich, the 1997 Murray Dranoff Piano Duo Competition in Miami, the 1996 Tokyo Piano Duo Competition and the 1995 Bellini Music Competition in Italy.

They have dazzled at major music halls across Europe, North and South America, Asia and even Africa, performing at festivals, concerts and recitals (including the opening of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City), making several radio and television appearances, teaching and releasing a number of CD recordings.

A recent review in Germany's Rhein-Neckar Zeitung newspaper rhapsodised that "the two pianists let their fingers trip over the keyboard with incredible lightness and sparkling jauntiness", while the Miami Herald reviewer marvelled at their "impressive unanimity... vivid... witty... as intense as white heat... deft articulation and astonishing digital power".
