The Brevard Music Center Presents The Pendergrast Family Patriotic Pops, 7/4

The Brevard Music Center (BMC) celebrates the Fourth of July with a beloved Brevard tradition - the Pendergrast Family Patriotic Pops. On Friday, July 4, at 2 p.m. Maestro Kraig Alan Williams leads the Brevard Symphonic Winds and the Brevard Community Band in marches, patriotic songs, and other favorites. Enjoy a picnic on the lawn or grab a seat inside for this holiday concert. Don't miss the concert's exciting finale - a performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, complete with live cannons.
The holiday weekend is rounded out with two performances led by rising-star conductor Danail Rachev. On Saturday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m., Rachev leads the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in an evening of music by some of the 20th century's greatest composers - Stravinsky's Scherzo fantastique, acclaimed violinist Adele Anthony performing Dvo?ák's Violin Concerto, and Prokofiev's seventh and final symphony. Rachev returns on Sunday, July 6, at 3 p.m. to lead the Brevard Sinfonia in an afternoon of classics and modern gems. The concert opens with BMC Resident Composers Brand New Day and gifted young cellist Tavi Ungerleider performing Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1. The concert closes with a performance of Tchaikovsky's joyful Symphony No. 2.
All orchestra and band concerts are presented in BMC's open-air Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. This truly unique concert setting lets audiences enjoy concerts from the comfort of indoor seating, or have a drink and picnic on the lawn while listening to live performances surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Music Center's campus. Lawn tickets start at just $15 and children 17 and under sit on the lawn for free.
CHAMBER MUSIC BRINGS WORLD-CLASS PERFORMERS TO BREVARD
Chamber music returns to the Porter Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Brevard College for a pair of outstanding concerts. On Monday, July 7 at 7:30 pm BMC Principal Concertmaster and Concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra, William Preucil, joins members BMC's Artist Faculty for the fan-favorite "Bill Preucil and Friends." On Wednesday, July 9 at 7:30 pm, the internationally-acclaimed Shanghai Quartet comes to Brevard for a one night only performance of Beethoven, Schubert, and more.
BMC PRESENTS GRAMMY WINNER MARC COHN ("Walking In Memphis)
The special BMC Presents series continues on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. with GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Marc Cohn. Best known for his 1990 hit "Walking In Memphis," Cohn has enjoyed a career distinguished by soulful original tunes, and brilliant re-imaginings of popular hits. Hailed as a natural storyteller and brilliant tunesmith with the passion of a great soul man, Cohn has thrilled audiences for over two decades. His current album, Listening Booth: 1970, features Cohn's distinctive covers of the great music of 1970. Bring the whole family for a relaxed evening of music in a one of a kind setting.

Patrons who purchase tickets online may print their tickets at home, may have them mailed, or may have them held at the box office. The online ticketing system also allows patrons to choose their own seats from the available locations.
Parking is free to all events at the Brevard Music Center.

HISTORY
The Brevard Music Center originated in 1936 as a summer music camp at Davidson College. James Christian Pfohl, the Music Center's founder and first Artistic Director, moved his operation to Queens College in Charlotte for the summer of 1943, then to the current location in 1944. Pfohl added a festival of concerts at the end of the 1946 session. Over time the camp became an institute, and the festival came to run the entire summer season.
In 2014 Brevard Music Center will enroll more than 400 students from nearly every state in the U.S., plus students from Europe, Asia, and South America. Sixty-five professional musicians, representing major orchestras and distinguished music schools, comprise the artist faculty. Students, faculty and staff all reside on the 180-acre wooded campus in Western North Carolina. The Brevard Music Center has emerged as one of America's premier summer training programs for young musicians.
