The Bragernes Church Youth Choir from Drammen, Norway Performs at St. Bart's Tonight

The Bragernes Church Youth Choir from Drammen, Norway will present a free impromptu concert at St. Bartholomew's Church today, June 24 at 12:30 pm.

Bragernes Church Youth Choir is comprised of 30 girls between the ages of 14 and 19. The Youth Choir present regular concerts and hold annual tours both in Norway and abroad. The Choir have performed in Vienna, Stockholm, Reykjavik, Paris and London as well as in a host of Norwegian towns.

The repertoire of the choir is drawn mainly from classical music as well as Norwegian folk songs. In March 2007 the Youth Choir, together with the Girls Choir, were invited to perform the premiere of a commissioned work portraying the story of the patron saint of Drammen and Oslo, St Hallvard. The performance formed part of the Oslo International Festival of Church Music. Performances of the work were presented both in Trefoldighets Church in Oslo and in Bragernes Church, Drammen. This gave the choir members the opportunity of participating in a production which was brought to life through singing, dance and costume drama. The Youth Choir went on to make a CD recording of the St. Hallvard work during the Autumn of 2009.

In 2013, the 20th anniversary of Bragernes Church Youth Choir has been celebrated with a number of concerts in Norway and a concert tour to Brighton, London.

At. St. Bartholomew's Church, the choir will be conducted by Beate Strømme Fevang, who has been the conductor of the choir since 1993. She studied church music and pedagogy at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo.
