THE FANTASTICKS, appearing at the Spencer Friday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m., is the longest-running production of any kind in the world, and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. • The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Sunday, February 23 at 3 p.m. ($69 & $66). One of the most successful of all dance bands to emerge from the great Swing Era, this band of 18 performs a matchless tunes like "In The Mood," "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Moonlight Serenade."

• "HAIR," The Original Broadway Rock-Musical Sunday, March 2 at 3 p.m. ($79 & $76). Exuberant, Tony-winning musical about a group of American teenagers searching for truth, peace and love in the Vietnam War era. Riveting with compelling dancing and chart-topping hits: "Aquarius," "Let the Sun Shine In," "Good Morning, Starshine." (• Story contains adult content).

• "The Firebird" and "Rodeo," Ruidoso Dance Ensemble Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. ($30). Love and enchantment is expressed with physical distinction in these two short ballets. "The Firebird" is based on a beloved Russian fairy tale about enchantment and victory with a gorgeous score by Stravinsky. "Rodeo" is a Copland classic, a humorous love story about a tomboy cowgirl yearning for a partner in the pioneer west.

• Bella Electric Strings: The Music of Queen, Led Zepplin and The Beatles, Saturday, March 22 at 8 p.m. ($59 &56)). Featuring four beauties on electric violins with bass and guitar accompaniment, this is a classically trained rock group that is truly electrifying in tunes like "Kashmir," "Eleanor Rigby," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Comfortably Numb," "Purple Haze" and "Baba O'Riley." • "West Side Story" Monday, March 31 at 3 p.m. ($66 & $63) and 8 p.m. ($69 & $66). One of the most memorable Broadway musicals of all time, this is a tale of the rivalry between two teenage street gangs and the tale of star-crossed love; with Tony-winning choreography, and a gorgeous score that includes "Tonight," "America," "Maria," "I Feel Pretty," "Officer Krupke" and "Somewhere."

• "Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes" starring Jason Petty Saturday, April 19 at 8 p.m. ($59 & $56). Nostalgic look at Hank Williams and his impact on country music featuring the Obie-winning Hank Williams performer, Jason Petty. Together with his western band, Petty brings insight and energy to indelible hits like "Move It On Over," "Wine Me Up," "Kawliga" and "Moanin' The Blues."

• Gary Lewis & The Playboys Saturday, May 3 at 8 p.m. ($59 & $56). With a slew of chart-topping rock hits like "This Diamond Ring," "Count Me In," "Everybody Loves A Clown," and "Sealed With A Kiss" Lewis, a former Entertainer of the Year, continues to be one of the hottest acts around.

• "Voyagers" Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. ($15). An intercultural classical music concert with multi-Grammy nominees Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai, Israeli cellist Udi Bar-David & American world-music percussionist Will Clipman.

Spencer Theater is a world-class performance hall located in the Sacramento Mountain settlement of Alto, about 12 miles north of downtown Ruidoso. Unique architecture, outstanding acoustics, intimate seating, and excellent artistry are the Spencer's celebrated features. The elegant, award-winning hall, which first raised its curtains in 1997, seats 514, with no seats farther than 67 feet from the 4,770 square-foot stage. The Spencer also has a 964 square-foot outdoor stage that can seat 1,500. From its Spanish mica-flecked limestone face to the crystal lobby, the building itself is a work of art.
