The San Diego Ballet Company (SDB), under the leadership of co-directors Robin Sherertz-Morgan and Javier Velasco, will present...DANCE GALLERY.
"Dance Gallery" is an intimate evening including world premiere dance and music brought to you by the SDB dancing artists and staff. Not just a dance showcase, "Dance Gallery" showcases the talent of the San Diego Ballet in a different light. Emerging choreographers from The Company along with acclaimed resident choreographer and Co-Artistic Director Javier Velasco present a mixed rep production. Join us in our home studio in Dance Place San Diego in Liberty Station. Special reception with live music by jazz musician Charles McPherson and the lovely sounds of Lorraine Castellanos. Professional level company members only, not a student performance.

Javier Velasco has been hailed by the San Diego Union-Tribune as "San Diego's answer to
Jerome Robbins" and was listed among people to watch in the art and theater scene by San Diego Magazine. He has supplied dances for productions at the
La Jolla Playhouse, Old Globe and has a long-standing relationship with the San Diego Repertory Theatre, where he has directed and choreographed productions of Hairspray, In the Heights, Cabaret and Suds, and many others. He currently serves as artistic director of the San Diego Ballet having created over 80 original pieces for the company since its inception.
Mr. Velasco will excite audiences again with excerpts from his recently premiered "Sweet Synergy Suite" to the smooth sounds of jazz musician Charles McPherson.
Matt Carney is a company member with San Diego Ballet, San Diego Dance Theatre, and is on faculty in the dance division at Coronado School for the Arts. Community involvement includes: International Dance Council, Member; American Society of Public Administration, Member; Art Miles Mural Project, Advisory Board Member. This is Matt's fifth season with the San Diego Ballet.
Enter the secret garden of two giggling fairy princesses in Matt's "Flower Duet" danced beautifully by Stephanie Miaorano and Tiffany Koepke to the flowing sounds from the opera Lakme.
Steffi Carter is a San Diego native. After graduating from the University of Chicago, Steffi returned to San Diego this past spring, her heart set on performing professionally here. This is her first season with San Diego Ballet, and she is excited to be a part it.
Her piece takes the audience through the labor of love that is the artistic and elemental process of dance. Each concept organically assembled into a simple, yet elaborate puzzle. Her piece is a glimpse into the heart and mind of the contemporary ballet dancer.
Barbara Seibert Chatelain, formerly of the New York City Ballet (and current ballet teacher at San Diego School of Ballet) is producing a piece entitled Parcours de Vie (Life Journey).
This piece depicts a physical narrative of a girl's journey into womanhood, following a "book or compass" that we all have at birth. Each journey is a different book--one of our intuition, another of our family's rules and wisdom, and one of our schools and our peers and friends. Which one is strongest or is a combination of all? Will she choose her own voice, or that of others? These are some of the ideas for Parcours de Vie."
Joe Hochschild began his training at the age of nine with Marin Dance Theatre under the direction of Margaret Swarthout. He augmented his studies under full scholarship at the Rock School of Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet. He has performed in such classics as Giselle,
Romeo & Juliet, Firebird, and several original works by SDB director
Javier Velasco. This is Joe's second season with SDB.
The essence of his piece articulates the certain power females possess both in and out of the dance world.
Zoe Marinello-Kohn received her ballet training at the San Francisco Ballet School and the Academy of Ballet in San Francisco. While a student, Zoe performed corps de ballet roles with the San Francisco Ballet in The Nutcracker. Upon her completion of training, Zoe was offered a trainee contract with Cincinnati Ballet. Zoe joined the San Diego Ballet in 2011 and has performed soloist and principle roles, including Snow Queen in Nutcracker and Dying Swan. This is Zoe's third season with SDB company.

Zoe's piece is an intricate dialogue between the dancer and the audience.
Megan Nicotera joined San Diego Ballet last season and is very happy to be here again with other dancers who share the same love of dance as she.
Her piece can be summed up into three words: Strong, Sexy, and Smooth. Three things that all women should show with pride. To be able to move and feel with music and have it resonate with people from all different walks of life.
