ARTINFO's Patrick Pacheco and NY1 theater reporter Frank DiLella sat down with architect and producer David Rockwell to talk about his most recent set designs for the Broadway musicals Kinky Boots and the upcoming Houdini. Watch the interview below!

Rockwell has also designed sets for Broadway's Dead Accounts, Elf, The Normal Heart, Catch Me If You Can, A Free Man Of Color, Legally Blonde, Hairspray, All Shook Up, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Rocky Horror Show.

The new musical Kinky Boots, from four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (book) and Grammy Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Music & Lyrics), ended its pre-Broadway run at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre on November 4, 2012. Kinky Boots will begin preview performances on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street) on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, with an official opening night set for Thursday, April 4, 2013.

The design team for Kinky Boots includes Tony Award nominee Rockwell (Scenic Design), Tony Award-winner Gregg Barnes (Costume Design), Tony Award-winner Kenneth Posner (Lighting Design), Drama Desk Award nominee John Shivers (Sound Design), Josh Marquette (Hair Design), Randy Houston Mercer (Make-up Design), Telsey + Company (Casting), with Musical Supervision, Arrangements and Orchestrations by Tony Award-winner Stephen Oremus (The Book of Mormon; Wicked).

In Kinky Boots, Charlie Price (Sands) has suddenly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola (Porter). A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he’s meant to be. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible… and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.

For Houdini, Hugh Jackman will return to Broadway during the 2013/2014 season starring as America’s greatest showman in an original musical, with a libretto by Academy Award and six-time Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin.

Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, HOUDINI is presented by film and theatre producer Scott Sanders and David Rockwell. Mr. Rockwell will also design the sets for HOUDINI. Additional HOUDINI casting, creative team and design team to be announced at a later date. The show, when previously announced, was to feature music by Danny Elfman and lyrics by David Yazbeck.
