Guest conductor Roberto Abbado will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) in "Dawn on the Moscow River" - the Prelude to Mussorgsky's opera, Khovanshchina - January 30, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., January 31, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., and February 1, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. Khovanshchina chronicles the turbulent years in Russia leading to the rise of Tsar Peter the Great.

Violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg will join the ASO for Shostakovich's emotionally and technically demanding First Violin Concerto. These performances will mark her fifth appearance with the Orchestra.

Mr. Abbado will also lead the Orchestra in Rachmaninov's final composition, the bewitching Symphonic Dances. In October 2011, the ASO released a recording of Symphonic Dances as part of an all-Rachmaninov album also featuring Music Director Robert Spano leading the Orchestra in Piano Concerto No. 3 with Garrick Ohlsson. Additional details about the recording are available at aso.org/asomedia.

Single tickets for this performance are $24-$75. Complete concert details are available at aso.org/abbado.
