ViVoce, Portland Revels' inspiring a capella women's choir, is proud to announce its seventh annual winter concerts today, January 19 and Sunday, January 20, 2013 at St. Michael's Church in Northeast Portland.

Like all Portland Revels program events, ViVoce concerts celebrate cultures from around the world, our shared struggles and joys as human beings, and the cycle of seasons through spunky and glorious song and evocative story. These performances are joyful, uplifting and interactive. The choir presents "exquisitely beautiful music" in counterpoint with well performed stories. Described as "technically superb," ViVoce evokes "the fire of ancient music

The theme of the ensemble's January 2013 performances is "Lonely Troubles, Days of Glory: Tales and Tunes for a Winter's Eve." Highlights include Four Peasant Songs (for a capella women's chorus by Igor Stravinsky); Praise the Name of the Lord (for a capella women's chorus by Pavel Chesnokov); Haec Dies (by William Byrd); a selection of early American, Romanian and British folk songs; and story-telling by guest performers Sarah Hauser and Nathan Markiewicz.

Sarah Hauser has been telling stories, in one form or another, since she learned to talk. She performs with The Portland Storytellers Guild and Storytellers 3 in various venues around the NW. She is thrilled to be part of the winter ViVoce concert. Nathan Markiewicz earned his BFA in acting at the University of Colorado in 2003, and has called Portland home ever since. He has appeared in several Christmas Revels shows, and recently shared a stage with Vivoce for the first time at the inaugural Revels SummerFaire, which he helped coordinate.

The concerts will play today, January 19, 2013 - 7:30pm and Sunday, January 20, 2013 - 4:30pm. Concerts take place at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, located at 1704 NE 43rd Ave., Portland, OR 97213 (just off Sandy Blvd.) A reception with light refreshments follows.

Ticket Prices: $15 Adults; $12 students/seniors; children 6 -12 free. Tickets are available in advance HERE and at The Door 30 minutes in advance of each concert.
