On Friday, February 7 at 7:30 pm the Pinckney Community School Orchestras and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will celebrate their eighth annual side-by-side concert at Jane Tasch Theater.

The side-by-side concert, sponsored by Citizens Bank, features the Navigator Sixth Grade String Orchestra, Pathfinder Orchestra, and Pinckney High School Orchestras who will perform alongside members of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra

"I am excited continue our partnership with the A2SO as the influence this experience has had on our kids and orchestra program is phenomenal," said Rick Todd, Superintendent at Pinckney Community "The music created by these students together with the A2SO musicians is tremendous. Mastering the music, learning new skills, and presenting a dynamic concert for the community is an achievement everyone - students, parents, teachers, and community members - can be proud of," stated Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor Arie Lipsky.

The orchestras, professionals and students, will perform the following repertoire:

• Johann Strauss, Radetzky March

• Steve Burch, Fires of Anacapa

• Robert W. Smith, American Portrait No. 1

• John Williams, Superman Returns

• Johannes Brahms, Variations on a Theme by Haydn

• Hans Zimmer, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will perform the first movement of Dvorak's New World Symphony.

This evening's concert builds upon the first side-by-side concert that took place in March 2007. Years of collaboration between the Pinckney Community Schools and the A²SO include A²SO Conductor and Music Director Arie Lipsky working with all of the Pinckney orchestras in the months and weeks before the concert as well as A2SO principal musicians working with each section of the orchestra in sectional

The Pinckney Elementary Schools enrich their music program by involving the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra with assemblies with the Brass, Wind, and String Ensembles, visits from Conductor Lipsky and a trip to the A²SO Youth Concert at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor.
