Parthenia, New York's premiere viol consort, will be in concert on Saturday, January 28 at 8:00 PM, performing William Byrd - A Life in Music at The Church of Saint Luke in the Fields, 487 Hudson Street in Manhattan.

Parthenia will collaborate with an ensemble of New York's finest Renaissance music singers to present a rich and varied selection of masterworks for viols and voices by William Byrd, Queen Elizabeth I's favorite composer. The Combined ensemble of eleven musicians will present anthems, motets, consort songs, works for solo virginals, and will feature Byrd's remarkable five-part viol consort repertoire. A special connection for the ensemble is that at the end of his 80-year life, Byrd published the first volume of printEd English keyboard music, called Parthenia.

Guest vocalists will be Michele Kennedy, Eric Brenner, Tim Keeler, Michael Steinberger and Malcolm Merriweather. Other guests will be Motomi Igarashi, tenor viol, and Stephen Rapp, virginals.

Tickets are $40 and $25. For more information, call 212-866-0468 or visit www.gemsny.org/events/parthenia-2016-2017-season.
