His TV appearance on iCarly might be the most recognizable Greg Pattillo has ever made, but he and his trio mates - Eric Stephenson and Peter Seymour - have played for millions of people around the world. Based in Brooklyn, PROJECT Trio performs a new breed of high-energy music packed with hip-hop, jazz, rock and beat-boxing. All three members of the trio were once part of the Canton Symphony Orchestra.

No one would ever expect a flute, cello and bass to be in the same sentence as hip-hop or beat-boxing, but don't tell that to over 75 million fans who have viewed their viral video sensations on YouTube or attended one of their concerts. "They are bringing a whole new look to classical music," stated Michelle Mullaly, Executive Director of the Canton Symphony Orchestra. "While classical melodies have pervaded rock, jazz, and popular music for decades, PROJECT Trio is performing the actual classical piece, divinely infused with jazz, rock and hip-hop."

While a member of the Colorado Music Festival, double bass player Seymour and cellist Stephenson conceived of forming a chamber music group that would combine elements of jazz, classical and popular music. Their original idea was to come together two or three times a year in various cities around the United States for a week-long music infusion with concert and educational activities. They approached Pattillo and in 2005, gathered in Cleveland for a series of performances and music workshops for youth. After Pattillo placed a video on YouTube that became a viral success for its unique mix of beat-boxing and flute, he was persuaded to move to New York City to join Seymour and Stephenson.

PROJECT Trio has since recorded three critically acclaimed albums and performed in concert halls, clubs, classrooms and music festivals around the world.

The New York Times hailed the flute-beat-boxing Pattillo as "the best person in the world at what he does." Besides his iCarly appearance (www.youtube.com/watch?v=an-YPMIvHd4), one of his most interesting accolades may be as winner of the Metropolitan Transit Authority's "Music Under New York" program. Among other things, the award gives Pattillo an official permit (if you can call it that) to play music in the New York subway system.

PROJECT Trio appears in concert with select members of the Canton Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, October 19 at 8:00pm at the Canton Palace Theatre. Tickets are $18, $24, and $28. (This is the first concert in the Pops Series. Three-concert series subscriptions are also available for $50, $65 and $75). Dress is casual and concerts are recommended for ages 8 and up.

Tickets and the full Canton Symphony Orchestra concert season schedule are available online at www.CantonSymphony.org, by calling 330-452-2094, or by walk-up at the box office window located inside the Cultural Center for the Arts (weekdays 10am-2pm) and at individual concerts. Founded in 1937, the Canton Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional ensemble and organization dedicated to performing concerts that enrich, educate and entertain. Under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann, the orchestra performs classical, pops, holiday, and educational programs.
