Oakland Symphony Season To Open With Hadleigh Adams, Today

The Oakland Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan open the 2016-2017 season with the return of charismatic baritone Hadleigh Adams singing Mahler'sRückert Lieder and the debut of the Delphi Trio performing Paul Juon's Episodes ConcertantesFriday, October 14, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. The program opens witH ClarkSuprynowicz's Red States, Blue States (2008) in recognition of the elections this November, and concludes with Elgar's In the South.

There will be a pre-concert talk, free to ticket-holders, beginning at 7 pm, and opening night is sponsored, in part, by Wells Fargo. About the Artists

Hadleigh Adams is a United-States based baritone who has received international acclaim for his performances on stage and in concert. He is renowned for his dynamic stage presence and ability to draw true, honest characters in his performances. His broad repertoire spans from Baroque and Bel Canto through Britten and contemporary composition. He has collaborated with some of today's greatest artists on the concert platform, and on the opera stage.

New-Zealand born, Adams began his operatic studies at the University of Auckland gaining a Bachelor of Music, with first class, first division honours and then completed his Masters of Music at the New Zealand School of Music. From here he was invited to join the New Zealand Opera as a Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist. In 2009 he relocated to Australia as the inaugural Gertrude Johnson Scholar at The Opera Studio, Melbourne. He then received a full three-year scholarship to London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied with Rudolf Piernay and Janice Chapman, gaining a Masters of Music with Distinction, and completed the Opera Program with first class, first division honors.

Following his studies, Adams performed in concert at London's St Martin-in-the-Fields, the London Song Recital series, and has performed at the Wigmore Hall as a Voiceworks series artist. Whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Hadleigh made his debut at London's Royal National Theatre singing the role of Christ in Jonathan Miller's production of Bach's St Matthew Passion, to critical acclaim.

Following these performances, Adams was invited to join the Merola Opera Program, at the San Francisco Opera and he was invited to join the San Francisco Opera as an Adler Fellow, the first New Zealander to ever hold the position. During his two-year tenure with the company he appeared in over 75 MainStage performances, and over 20 concert performances. His final performance with the company was in the role of Schaunard in La Bohème.

In 2015, Adams made his New York debut in RB Schlather's production of Handel's Orlando at Whitebox NYC. This production, conducted by Geoffrey McDonald won praise from critics for its visceral, modern treatment of the work. Since his New York debut, he has had his debut performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Oakland Symphony, Opera Pittsburgh, Opera Omaha, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Orlando. In 2015 Adams also debuted a cabaret he wrote, to critical acclaim. The season sold out, and he will be performing an encore season in the 2016/17 season. This upcoming season also sees his debuts with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, Nagambie Lakes opera Festival - Melbourne, Colorado Symphony, and return engagements with the Oakland Symphony, and Opera Parallèle.

The Delphi Trio-violinist Liana Bérubé, cellist Michelle Kwon and pianist Jeffrey LaDeur-- has become a powerfully eloquent voice in the world of chamber music. Prizewinners of the 2015 Orlando Concours in the Netherlands, the Delphi Trio performed throughout the region to great acclaim, including a live broadcast for Dutch Radio 4. 2016-2017 season highlights include the world premiere of William Bolcom's Piano Trio, an evening of solo concerti by Schumann, Bernstein, and Shostakovich with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and Barbara Day Turner, a recording project with indie rock artist John Vanderslice and composer Max Stoffregen, the west coast premiere of Paul Juon's Episodes Concertantes (1912) with Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony, and performances throughout the United States, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C.

Following a triumphant orchestral debut in Beethoven's Triple Concerto op.56 with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra led by the late George Cleve, the Delphi Trio has concertized throughout the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, and Germany, including performances at the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota, Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, WFMT Studios Chicago, Dakota Sky International Piano Festival, and the Banff Centre for the Arts.

The Delphi Trio is grounded in the immensely rich classic repertoire for piano trio and is committed to the exploration of its deep, lasting meaning for performers and audience alike. The Trio sees contemporary music as a natural extension of the standard repertoire and is dedicated to the music of our time. Delphi has given acclaimed world premieres of Max Stoffregen's Coyote Plan (2013) and Sahba Aminikia's Deltangi-ha (2012) and Shab o Meh (2014), and has commissioned William Bolcom to write his first piano trio, to be premiered during the 2016-17 season.
