Philip Smith, the longtime New York Philharmonic Principal Trumpet who retired in June 2014, is one of the undisputed top trumpet virtuosos of all time. This collection of recordings celebrates his 36 seasons as a beloved member and leader of the New York Philharmonic's trumpet section.

The recording includes selections from Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 3, 5, and 9; Musorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition; Ives's The Unanswered Question; Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man; Gershwin's An American in Paris; Respighi's Pines of Rome; Handel's The Trumpet Shall Sound; and more. The recording, distributed by Naxos, will be available for purchase on March 24, 2015. Additional concerto recordings, including Tomasi's Trumpet Concerto, Bach's Cantata No. 51, Arutunian's Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, and Tamberg's Trumpet Concerto No. 1, will be available online only.

Philip Smith is returning to join his New York Philharmonic Brass and Percussion colleagues for the annual Holiday Brass concert on December 14, a tradition that he helped introduce in 1995. Mr. Smith will host and conduct the program, which will include works by Bach and Gabrieli, Christmas carols and songs, and Chanukah music. Concertgoers will receive a free copy of The Philip Smith Collection with ticket purchase. Click here for details.
