NYU Skirball Announces Full Line-Up for VISIONS + VOICES: GERMANY

This spring, NYU SKIRBALL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS will present its VISIONS + VOICES Global Performance Series, now in its third year, with a focus on Germany. Continuing their mission to showcase and support diverse and eclectic talent from around the world, all while cultivating audiences for live performance through deeper engagement opportunities, VISIONS + VOICES: GERMANY will feature productions from three of Germany's premiere contemporary theatre companies: Gob Squad's WESTERN SOCIETY, She She Pop's SCHUBLADEN and Rimini Protokoll's REMOTE NEW YORK, as well as panel discussions, visual art presentations, and a performance by the NYU Symphony Orchestra. Gob Squad's WESTERN SOCIETY
Presented in Association with The Public Theatre
February 18, 2015 - February 21, 2015

Gob Squad's WESTERN SOCIETY, presented in association with The Public Theater, will open on February 18, 2015 and runs through February 21, 2015 only. WESTERN SOCIETY presents a portrait of civilization in the 21st century. Inspired by a real video of an unknown family's mundane party, Gob Squad invites the audience to join them as bring the video to life, exploring who they are and who we are, and maybe most importantly, why we are.

Gob Squad's WELCOME TO OUR WORLD, BUILT WITH YOU IN MIND - AN ILLUSTRATED LECTURE
February 19, 2015 at 12pm: FREE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

Join Gob Squad company members Bastian Trost and Simon Will for Welcome To Our World, Built With You In Mind, an illustrated lecture presented free to the public via livestream. Welcome To Our World, Built With You In Mind, will be hosted by the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics, and Gob Squad members will share with us an introduction to the group including how they got their start and an overview of their provocative and entertaining work over the past 20 years.

THE VISUAL WORKS OF ANJA NIEDRINGHAU
On Display Now through March 13, 2015: FREE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

A German photojournalist who worked for the Associated Press, Anja Niedringhaus (1965-2014) spent her life documenting regions torn apart by conflict and captured her many subjects amidst the chaos of war. In 2005, Anja Niedringhaus was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography as part of an 11-member AP team covering Iraq. That same year, the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) honored her with the Courage in Journalism Award. Her work is on display now through March 13, 2015.

Should Higher Education Be Free? An Examination of German and U.S. Perspectives - Panel Discussion
March 10, 2015 at 7pm: FREE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

Hosted by Deutsches Haus, Should Higher Education Be Free? An Examination of German and U.S. Perspectives will include panelists Gabriella Etmektsoglou (Director, NYU Berlin) and Nina Lemmens (Director, DAAD New York), with more to be announced.

She She Pop's SCHUBLADEN
March 26, 2015 - March 28, 2015

SCHUBLADEN, a new production from She She Pop, will run from March 26 through March 28, 2015. Drawing from letters, journals, literature, music and photographs, and performed by three East-born and three West-born artists, SCHUBLADEN reimagines the reunification of Germany like never before and explores the complex relationship between East and West Germans.

Panelists include Lauren Fogle Boyd (Author of The Altarpiece), David J. Rowland (Co-founder and Managing Partner, Rowland & Petroff), and Lucien Simmons (Senior Vice President, Sotheby's North America Worldwide Head, Restitution Department).

NYU Symphony Orchestra Performs GERMAN MASTERWORKS: Richard Wagner, Hans Werner Henze, and Karlheinz Stockhausen
March 29, 2015 at 3pm

For one exclusive performance, the NYU Symphony Orchestra will perform masterworks from three iconic German composers: Richard Wagner, Hans Werner Henze, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. The full concert will be conducted by German-born conductor Jens Georg Bachmann, who spent several years as assistant conductor to James Levine at the Munich Philharmonic, the Verbier Festival, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Opera, and will feature soloists soprano Alexandra Deshorties and bass-baritone Keith Miller on the Henze. The NYU Symphony, part of the NYU Orchestra Program, is the premiere orchestral ensemble at NYU Steinhardt. The NYU Orchestra Program is directed by Prof. Joseph Bongiorno.

Rimini Protokoll's REMOTE NEW YORK
March 14 - March 29, 2015

REMOTE NEW YORK, an interactive production created by Rimini Protokoll is a traveling theater experience that weaves through the city, reimagining the familiar from an alien point of view. Audience members are led on a journey by GPS instructions pumped through headphones, taking them on a truly interactive and technology-enhanced experience that opens one's eyes to their surroundings and the hidden routines and meanings we overlook each day.
