Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla Leads Hilary Hahn and the LA Phil at Walt Disney Concert Hall This Weekend

The Los Angeles Philharmonic's dynamic Assistant Conductor Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla shares her passion for Weinberg's ballet music from 1955 and Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony as she leads the LA Phil in three performances, tonight through Saturday, December 10 through 12, at 8 pm. Violinist Hilary Hahn performs Vieuxtemps' Concerto No. 4, a piece that has been part of her repertoire since she was 10 years old and that she recorded earlier this year.

The Friday performance is part of the LA Phil's Inside the Music with Brian Lauritzen. This interactive series - beginning its second season - includes a video, hosted by the KUSC radio DJ, sent to audience members prior to the performance, pre- and post-concert discussions with the host and artists, and ways to engage online for further exploration.

"Meeting a Force -- Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla makes a great first impression and before long she will simply be known as MIRGA" wrote the Los Angeles Times critic after her thrilling Hollywood Bowl debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in August 2014. Recently appointed Music Director of the Salzburg Landestheater with the start of the 2015/16 season and set to become Associate Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in July 2016, Grazinyte-Tyla has not ceased to electrify orchestras and audiences alike. A Dudamel Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2012/13, Grazinyte-Tyla isthe 2012 winner of the prestigious Nestle and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award. Subsequently she made her debut with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in a symphonic concert at the Salzburger Festspiele. Last season, she collaborated with Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica in an extensive tour, and made her debut with the Wiener Kammerorchester in Vienna. In 2013/14 as First Kapellmeister of the Opera House in Bern, she conducted new productions of Zero, La Traviata and The Cunning Little Vixen. Additionally, she led several productions at the Theater Heidelberg such as Aida and Carmen as well as new productions of Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Las Cartas de Frida by the renowned Mexican composer Marcela Rodriguez. Highlights of Grazinyte-Tyla's career include an impressive debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in Birmingham, UK as well as concerts with the Danish Radio Orchestra, Copenhagen, the MDR Orchestra Leipzig, the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, and the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra, as well as a collaboration with the Camerata Salzburg.

In the two decades since her professional debut, three-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn has brought her virtuosity, expansive interpretations, and creative repertoire choices to diverse global audiences. Hahn began recording at the age of 16. She has released 15 albums on the Deutsche Grammophon and Sony labels, in addition to three DVDs, an Oscar-nominated movie soundtrack, an award-winning recording for children, and various compilations. Her recordings have received every critical prize in the international press and have met with equal popular success. In 2010, she released Jennifer Higdon's Violin Concerto along with the Tchaikovsky concerto; Higdon's work, written for Hilary Hahn, went on to win the Pulitzer Prize. In 2013, Hahn released In 27 Pieces: the Hilary Hahn Encores, the culmination of a multi-year project to renew the encore genre, for which she received a Grammy® Award in 2015. Her most recent album, released in spring 2015, references her musical heritage, featuring works by Mozart and Vieuxtemps and recorded with longtime colleagues Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Hahn's gregarious personality reaches out to students, new listeners, and anyone with an interest in music and the arts. Upbeat Live pre-concert events take place in Walt Disney Concert Hall's BP Hall one hour before the Thursday and Saturday concerts, and are free to all ticket holders. Composer Veronika Krausas hosts. TheFriday discussion takes place on stage one hour and 15 minutes before the concert and is hosted by Brian Lauritzen.
