Ludovic Morlot to Lead Violinist Sergey Khachatryan in Walt Disney Concert Hall Stage, 11/14

Following their pairing in the LA Phil in/SIGHT series concert,Friday, November 13, Music Director of the Seattle SymphonyLudovic Morlot and Sergey Khachatryan, the youngest person ever to win the Sibelius Violin Competition, once again join the LA Phil on the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage, Saturday andSunday, November 14 and 15, at 2 pm.

The program opens with Khachatryan playing Beethoven's Violin Concerto, a work he performed with LA Phil Music Director & Artistic Gustavo Dudamel and the Vienna Philharmonic at the Lucerne Festival a year ago as the latest recipient of the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award.

Following intermission, the concert continues with John Luther Adams' Become Ocean, the composer's meditation on the melting of the ice caps. The piece was premiered and recorded by the Seattle Symphony under Morlot in 2013 and won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Music and the 2015 Grammy for Best Classical Contemporary Composition.

During the 2015/16 season French conductor Ludovic Morlot and the Seattle Symphony continue to invite their audiences to 'listen boldly,' presenting a wide variety of works including the launch of a two-year cycle of Beethoven Symphonies and Piano Concertos; Berio's Sinfonia featuring vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth; Messiaen's Poèmes pour Mi; Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4; Mahler's Symphony No. 1; and Fauré's Requiem. Complemented by the Seattle Symphony's highly innovative series, Symphony Untuxed and [untitled], this season also sees the release of several more recordings on the orchestra's new label, Seattle Symphony Media. In addition to his return appearance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Morlot also returns to the New York Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra. In Europe he makes his debut with the Geneva Camerata conducting a Homage to Ligeti and will also return to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Recent notable performances have included the Royal Concertgebouw, Czech Philharmonic, Dresden Staatskapelle, Tonhalle, Budapest Festival, Orchestre National de France, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestras.

Sergey Khachatryan's 2015/16 season began at the Masion de la Radio France performing under the baton of Daniele Gatti with the Orchestre National de France. This season, he also collaborates with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Valencia Symphony, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Orchestra della Toscana, and the Orchestre de Paris with whom he will play Brahms' Double Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor with Narek Hakhnazaryan. Further highlights include projects with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Sudwestrundfunk Sinfonieorchester, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. His most recent project with his regular duo partner, Lusine Khachatryan (piano), is Brahms' three Sonatas for Violin and Piano, both on stage and on recording. The Brahms CD was released in June 2013 on Naïve Classique. Khachatryan's discography on the label also includes the Sibelius and Khachaturian concerti with Sinfonia Varsovia and Emmanuel Krivine, both Shostakovich concerti with the Orchestre National de France and Kurt Masur, a recording of the Shostakovich and Franck sonatas for violin and piano and the complete Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach. A disc of Armenian music will be released in 2015.
