The Las Vegas Philharmonic will hold its annual Cox Communications Young Artists' Concerto Competition on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in the Horn Theater Recital Hall on the College of Southern Nevada, Cheyenne Campus. Young musicians who are legal residents of Nevada and are students through senior year in high school are eligible to compete. Musicians must perform one movement from a standard concerto in front of a panel of judges. One winner and one runner-up will be selected from the pool of applicants participating in the competition. The presenting sponsor of the Young Artists' Concerto Competition, Cox Communications, will award the winner $2,000 in prize money and $1,000 to the runner-up. Cox Communications's support of the Las Vegas Philharmonic is part of their company's longstanding support of the arts - in particular, youth art education - and is part of the Cox Hearts for Arts program. The winner and runner-up will have the opportunity to perform on Reynolds Hall stage at The Smith Center with the Las Vegas Philharmonic during the orchestra's Youth Concert Series. There will be a total of 10 youth concerts with 2 performances per day scheduled for November 19 and 20, 2015 and January 6 - 8, 2016. The application to enroll in the competition is available online to download. The Las Vegas Philharmonic is accepting applications for the competition until Friday, September 18, 2015.

The Cox Communications Young Artists' Concerto Competition has been a key component of the orchestra's education and community outreach since 1999, with their free annual Youth Concert Series reaching 180,000 school children to date. The purpose of the competition is to offer young musicians a taste of what it's like to perform on stage with a professional orchestra and to inspire students to study music, learn an instrument and consider a career in music. "Performing with the orchestra was instrumental in forming the young artist I have become today. I had never experienced such professionalism as I had with the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra," said Devon Zubka, 17-year old cellist from Green Valley High School and two-time Concerto Competition winner.
