LV Philharmonic to Perform Second Season of Spotlight Concerts in 2016-17

The Las Vegas Philharmonic will perform a second season of Spotlight Concerts on September 22, 2016, February 16, 2017 and May 4, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the intimate Troesh Studio Theater at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

Prior to July 25th, the Spotlight Concerts were sold as a three-concert package add-on to subscriptions to the Philharmonic's main 2016-2017 concert season in Reynolds Hall. Now patrons can select one or more Spotlight Concerts for purchase separately. Seating in Troesh Studio Theater is general admission at $70 per ticket. Each performance features principal members of the Las Vegas Philharmonic performing three classical works composed for small ensembles narrated by Music Director Donato Cabrera.

The first performance on Thursday, September 22, 2016 starts with Kodály's Duo for Violin and Cello, Opus 7 followed by Beethoven's String Trio in C Minor, Opus 9, No. 3 for Violin, Viola and Cello and concludes with Mozart's Quartet in F Major, K. 370 for Oboe, Violin, Viola and Cello. The program will be performed by the Las Vegas Philharmonic's concertmaster De Ann Letourneau, principal violist Jason Bonham, principal cellist Andrew Smith and principal oboist Stephen Caplan.

The second Spotlight Concert on Thursday, February 16, 2017 includes Schumann's Märchenbilder (Fairy Tale Pictures), Opus 113 for Viola and Piano, Brahms's Sonata No. 2 in E-flat Major, Opus 120, No. 2 for Clarinet and Piano, and Mozart's Trio in E-flat Major, K. 498 "Kegelstatt," for Clarinet, Viola and Piano. The musicians featured in this February concert include principal clarinetist Cory Tiffin, principal violist Jason Bonham, and principal pianist Voltaire Verzosa.

The final performance in the Spotlight Concert series is Thursday, May 4, 2017 and features Mozart's Duo No. 1 in G Major, K. 423 for Violin and Viola followed by Kodály's Sonata for Solo Cello, Opus 8 and Dvorák's String Quartet in F Major, Opus 96 "American." Returning musicians, concertmaster De Ann Letourneau, principal violist Jason Bonham and principal cellist Andrew Smith, are joined by principal violinist II Shakeh Ghoukasian.
