The Las Vegas Philharmonic will have the world on a string on Saturday, April 5th at 7:30 p.m. when it performs "Love Vintage Las Vegas Style," an evening of Rat Pack-era favorites conducted by Matt Catingub. In addition to leading the 65-piece orchestra, Mr. Catingub will also sing and play piano and saxophone and will be joined on stage by his regular collaborators, vocalist Anita Hall and drummer Steven Moretti, to create a swinging big band performing songs made famous by much-loved Las Vegas headliners.

Song selections include That's Amore, Everybody Loves Somebody, Night & Day, That Old Black Magic, A Lot of Livin' To Do, Moonlight In Vermont, I Got the World On A String, Hey Big Spender and many others with the music arranged by Mr. Catingub, who led the Las Vegas Philharmonic's 4th with the Phil concert last year. His successful big band called Big Kahuna & the Copa Cat Pack was widely acclaimed touring the world with Rosemary Clooney and backing notable artists such as Michael Feinstein, Linda Eder and Lionel Hampton. Mr. Catingub also wrote and performed the music for the George Clooney film Good Night and Good Luck. He made an onscreen appearance as the leader of the band, created all of the arrangements and played tenor sax in the movie and on the CD. The soundtrack for Good Night and Good Luck featuring Matt and vocalist Diane Reeves won a Grammy Award in 2005 for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

Now Las Vegas-based, Mr. Catingub is the Artistic Director and conductor of the Glendale Pops Orchestra, the Founder and Artistic Director of Hawaii Pops and Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Macon Pops. The son of the great jazz vocalist and "Polynesia's First Lady of Song," Mavis Rivers, Mr. Catingub regularly performed with his mother and has a life-long love for jazz and big band music, including songs associated with Las Vegas.

For the Las Vegas Philharmonic musicians, "Love Vintage Las Vegas Style" provides an opportunity to pay homage to the tradition of live entertainment in Las Vegas and the Strip showrooms, where many of the musicians perform today.

"If you can remember seeing Frank, Dean and Sammy in the Copa Room at The Sands or Louis Prima and Keely Smith in The Sahara's Casbah Lounge - or if you just wished you had! - then this concert is for you," says President & CEO Jeri Crawford. "With the swinging skills of our musicians steeped in the entertainment traditions of this city matched with the vocal talents of Matt and Anita, this is going to be one swell party!"

The Las Vegas Philharmonic offers $25 tickets for balcony seating at all of its 2013-14 season concerts. Seats in other sections are priced $46, $64 and $94. Tickets are available from The Smith Center Box Office, phone 702.749.2000 or online from lvphil.org. A 50% student discount is available on all single ticket purchases (ID required.)
