Itzhak Perlman to Performs Solo Recital Show at Avery Fisher Hall, 12/3

Reigning violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman will perform his first New York solo recital since 2007 at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 7:30 PM, presented by IMG Artists. Pianist Rohan De Silva, Perlman's longtime recital partner, joins the violinist for a program to include Vivaldi's Sonata in A Major for Violin and Continuo, Op. 2 RV 31; Schumann's Fantasiestücke, Op. 73; Beethoven's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 7 in C Minor, Op. 18; and Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 in G Major, as well as additional works to be announced from the stage.

Mr. Perlman is returning to the New York solo stage, at Avery Fisher Hall, a venue he cherishes as the site of so many career milestones, in anticipation of his 70th birthday in 2015. His recent New York performances have included featured solo and conducting appearances with the New York Philharmonic; concerts at Carnegie Hall with the Toronto Symphony with Peter Oundjian and the European Union Youth Orchestra with Vladimir Ashkenazy; chamber music programs with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Emanuel Ax; and performances with the students of his Perlman Music Program. His latest New York appearance saw him at Brooklyn's Barclays Center with the cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot performing highlights from their recording of Jewish liturgical music, Eternal Echoes. And the television special Rejoice with Itzhak Perlman and Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot has recently aired on PBS as part of THIRTEEN's Great Performances series.

Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, he is treasured by audiences throughout the world who respond not only to his remarkable artistry, but also to his irrepressible joy for making music. In addition to the Avery Fisher Hall recital, his 2014-15 season highlights include season-opening gala concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel in a tribute to John Williams, with the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa and Pinchas Zukerman, and with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Jaap van Zweden. He makes recital appearances with pianist Rohan De Silva also in Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. His conducting appearances include the Israel Philharmonic with pianist Daniil Trifonov as soloist, Houston Symphony, and Seattle Symphony. In addition, Mr. Perlman will perform and speak at a special event commemorating the centennial of the birth of Dr. Jonas Salk, the developer of the polio vaccine, at the Salk Institute in San Diego in November. Mr. Perlman will also participate in an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of his recording of klezmer music, In the Fiddler's House, on March 31, 2015, at Carnegie Hall.

Born in Israel in 1945, Mr. Perlman was propelled to national recognition with an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1958. He won the prestigious Leventritt Competition in 1964, which led to a burgeoning worldwide career. Since then, Itzhak Perlman has appeared as violin soloist with every major orchestra and in recitals and festivals around the world.

In addition, Mr. Perlman has performed as conductor with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony, National Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the symphony orchestras of St. Louis, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Montreal, and Toronto, as well as at the Ravinia and Tanglewood festivals. Internationally, Mr. Perlman has conducted the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic.

In 2003, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts granted Mr. Perlman a Kennedy Center Honor celebrating his distinguished achievements and contributions to the cultural and educational life of the United States. He has performed multiple times at the White House, most recently in 2012 for Israeli President and Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Shimon Peres; and at a State Dinner in 2007 for Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. Mr. Perlman was honored to take part in the inauguration of President Obama in 2009, premiering a piece written for the occasion by John Williams alongside cellist Yo-Yo Ma, clarinetist Anthony McGill and pianist Gabriela Montero.

Itzhak Perlman has won four Emmy Awards and 16 Grammy Awards. He performed at the 2006 Academy Awards and at the Juilliard School Centennial gala, broadcast nationally on Live from Lincoln Center. One of Mr. Perlman's proudest achievements is his collaboration with film score composer John Williams in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning film Schindler's List, in which he performed the violin solos.

Mr. Perlman devotes considerable time to education, both in his participation each summer in the Perlman Music Program and his teaching at The Juilliard School, where he holds the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Chair. He was awarded an honorary doctorate and a centennial medal on the occasion of Juilliard's 100th commencement ceremony in 2005.
