WHAT: The Houston Symphony's prestigious Ima Hogg Competition is designed to support and offer performance opportunities for young artists within the ages of 13-30 who play orchestral instruments. Now in its 40th year, it is recognized as one of the foremost instrumental competitions in the world. The four finalists will be competing for a first place prize of $25,000, second place prize of $10,000, third place prize of $5,000 and fourth place prize of $1,000.

WHO: The four finalists of this year's Ima Hogg Competition are:

  • ? Hui Shan Ching, piano, Houston, TX

  • ? Bixby Kennedy, clarinet, New Haven, CT

  • ? Esther Liao, piano, Houston, TX

  • ? Seth Morris, flute, Houston, TX

    The judges' panel includes Stuart Isacoff, an author, lecturer, pianist and composer who often contributes music and art writing to the Wall Street Journal, Charlotte Lee, founder and president of Primo Artists in New York City and Ward Stare, Music Director of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
