Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Music Director Riccardo Muti and Deborah F. Rutter, president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA), announce the programming for the CSO and Symphony Center Presents (SCP) 2014/15 season-the Orchestra's 124th season and Maestro Muti's fifth season as music director. Next season, Maestro Muti leads ten weeks of subscription concerts in four residencies with the Orchestra in Chicago, with appearances in September/October, January, February/March and June. In addition, he leads the Orchestra on a three- week tour of Europe in October and November, and in three performances at Carnegie Hall in January. (more...)

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) announced today that Joseph Young has been named the new ASO Assistant Conductor and Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) Music Director. Mr. Young, most recently the Resident Conductor of the Phoenix Symphony, will begin his new post on June 1, 2014. His initial contract is for one year, with the opportunity for an extension. The 49th season of Lincoln Center's Great Performers series, which will run from November 2, 2014 through May 10, 2015, was announced today by Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director. Highlighting the season are the return of the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, led by Riccardo Chailly and of Michael Tilson Thomasconducting the London Symphony Orchestra. The "Art of the Song" series returns in 2015 with recitals by four outstanding vocal artists. The 2014-2015 season also features a period-instrument chamber orchestra series, a recital series, and a film series, and includes pre- and post-concert discussions and lectures. A new series, "Complimentary Classical" will bring four compelling string quartets to the David Rubenstein Atrium in free concerts in 2015. (more...)

On February 28 at 8:00 PM, The DiMenna Center for Classical Music will host the premiere screening of Essie Jain's film album, All Became Golden, a visual 5.1 surround-sound version of the album conceived by Jain and director Natalie Johns with music arranged by Nico Muhly. The project was recorded at The DiMenna Center in February 2012. Together with its first public screening, Jain will give a live performance with members of Orchestra of St. Luke's, followed by a conversation with the artist and filmmaker. (more...)

The 66th annual Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, under the leadership of General Manager Bernard Foccroulle, will present four world premieres in 2014: new opera productions of Handel's Ariodante and Rossini's Il Turco in Italia, plus Katie Mitchell's staging of Bach cantatas, Trauernacht, and William Kentridge's multi-media version of Schubert's iconic song cycle, Winterreise. Also featured in the coming season is a new Festival production of Mozart's Die Zauberflote, a concert version of Rameau's Les Boreades, and a selection of orchestral concerts, recitals, and chamber music performances. In addition, the 17th annual European Academy of Music will offer more than 60 events and 250 young artists.
