League of American Orchestras Chair Lowell J. Noteboom has announced the appointment of Henry Peyrebrune and Barry A. Sandersto the League's Board of Directors. Peyrebrune and Sanders, who will both serve three-year terms, were elected by the League membership during its annual meeting in June.

"A gifted musician and bass player with The Cleveland Orchestra, Henry Peyrebrune has a keen interest in the operations of orchestras," said Noteboom. "He has been a valued voice at a number of national convenings, and offers fresh insight and a dedication to open communications between musicians, management, and boards."

"Barry Sanders is an accomplished orchestra board chair who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience," said Noteboom. "The League is grateful to benefit from his expertise in the orchestra field."

Henry Peyrebrune joined the bass section of The Cleveland Orchestra in 1997. Before coming to Cleveland, he served as principal bass with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada (1994-1997). He has also been principal bass of the Portland Symphony, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic, and Cantata Singers, and has been a member of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and the Albany Symphony Orchestra.

Peyrebrune holds a bachelor of music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Edwin Barker of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He also participated in Tanglewood and Kent/Blossom Music programs. Peyrebrune has taught at the University of Southern Maine, Longy School of Music, and Concord Academy. He is a Teaching Artist with The Cleveland Orchestra's Learning Through Music school partnership program, and, in addition, he is currently a member of the faculty at Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music and serves as board president of NoteWorthy Federal Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial cooperative serving Northeast Ohio's arts community.

Barry Sanders served on the Board of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for more than a decade in a variety of leadership positions, including chairman, president, and interim general manager. At the orchestra, he successfully guided the institution in the negotiation of the lease for Walt Disney Concert Hall, the renovation of the Hollywood Bowl, and the leadership transition from Ernest Fleischmann to Deborah Borda as president and CEO.

Music and the arts have been a particular area of Sanders' community-service focus. He is on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Opera and Chair of the Governance Committee, and led the opera's city-wide Ring Festival LA in 2010 and has served on the Boards of Directors of the Los Angeles Performing Arts Center, the Music Center Foundation, The Walt Disney Concert Hall Corporation, the Joffrey Ballet, the Aman Dance Company, the Geffen Playhouse, the Otis Art Institute, and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, among others. Sanders received the 1999 Medal of Honor for contributions to the arts from the Thornton School of Music of the University of Southern California.

An international corporate lawyer, Sanders recently retired from the partnership at the global law firm of Latham & Watkins after practicing with the firm for over 35 years. In addition, he was founding president of the Los Angeles Center for International Commercial Arbitration and founding chair of the International Law Section of the California State Bar Association. Sanders was born in Philadelphia and earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Yale Law School.
