On Tuesday, November 5 2013, HAZZAN YOHAI COHEN and THE NEW YORK ANDALUS ENSEMBLE will present Mizrah to Maghreb: Sacred Sephardic Musical Poetry from Brooklyn at Elebash Hall - 365 Fifth Ave between 34 and 35 Street, NYC.
This is "A City of The World Concert". Doors at 6pm, Show at 7:00pm. Tickets: $15 / $10 NYC Students and Graduate Center Members. Limited Free Tickets for Graduate Center Students.
Hazzan Yohai Cohen, accompanied by The New York Andalus Ensemble, performs piyyutim (sacred poems) from the Middle East and North Africa. Piyyutim focus on the relationship between humanity and the Divine and serve as the primary texts of the classical musical traditions of Jewish groups from this region. Hazzan Cohen, of Tunisian and Iraqi background and a native of Beit Shean, Israel, lives and works in Brooklyn's Sephardi community as a prayer leader and singer. Members of The New York Andalus Ensemble will be performing with him on oud (lute), violin, qanun (zither), nay (flute), darbuka and riq(percussion). Additional vocalists will join him for the Maghrebi portion of the concert. This show is curated by ethnomusicologist and bandleader Samuel R. Thomas for the City of the World series. All Live@365 shows stage at Elebash Recital Hall, located within the Graduate Center of the City University of New York's cultural and conference complex. Elebash Hall is an intimate, 180-seat space with classical recital hall design and superb state-of-the-art sound.
Elebash Hall is located at 365 5th Avenue, between West 34 and West 35th Street. The venue is a short walk from the 6 train at the 33rd Street stop, the B/D/F/M or PATH train at the 34 Street Herald Square stop or the 1/2/3 trains at 34 Street Penn Station.

Tickets are $25 or $20 with a Graduate Center student or faculty ID, excepting Mizrah to Maghreb on November 5, which is $15. Student discount tickets are available for purchase only on-site at the venue.
