Great Music at St. Bart's Welcomes The Academic Orchestra of Tübingen University Tonight
Great Music at St. Bart's will present The Academic Orchestra of Tübingen University, Germany tonight, October 11 at 7:30 pm.
Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen is a public research university located in the city of Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg. It is one of Germany's oldest and most famous universities, having been established in 1477. It is internationally renowned in medicine, the natural sciences and the humanities, particularly theology and musicology.
The Academic Orchestra of Tübingen University was founded by Friedrich Silcher in 1837. Today it includes over 60 members, and is conducted by Philipp Amelung. The repertoire ranges from the Baroque period to contemporary music and includes great orchestral works of Honegger, Mahler, Saint-Saëns and Brahms.
At St. Bart's, the orchestra will perform Mozart's Overture to "Don Giovanni," Schumann's Symphony #4 and the US première of Randall Svane's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra with renowned German violinist Julia Galic.

The Great Music Series, presented by the Mid-Manhattan Performing Arts Foundation, Inc., (MMPAF) offers a diverse variety of concerts from large scale choral works and organ concerts in the church to chamber music and jazz in the acoustically remarkable chapel. Crucial to the musical programming of the series is St. Bartholomew's Choir, a fully professional choir, and the Boy and Girl Choristers, renowned as one of the finest children's choir in the metropolitan area. The church also possesses an Aeolian/Skinner pipe organ of 168 stops, the largest in New York City and considered to be one of the greatest examples of the American Classic Organ of the 20th century.
