Performing Arts Fort Worth proudly welcomes Drumline LIVE to Bass Performance Hall on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22-$49.50 and are on sale NOW!
Drumline LIVE is a 39-member marching band ensemble made up of students from America's top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Named after 20th Century Fox's 2002 hit movie, Drumline, this collective performs energetic dance and music routines that recreate the spirit and excitement of college sporting event half-time shows. The group's repertoire is made up of Motown classics, current R&B and hip-hop favorites and brass-powered jazz.

Drumline LIVE was created by Don P. Roberts, a longtime educator who served as the film's executive band consultant.

"This is the rare show that can bring together the generation that relates to the Jackson Five or James Brown, with their kids or grandkids who listen to Top 40," Roberts says. "It will also expose the world to one of the most electrifying, dynamic, sensational and best-kept secrets in the history of American music culture."
Historically Black Colleges and Universities were first established in the 19th century as institutions of higher learning for African Americans. Today, there are more than 100 HBCU campuses, including Florida A&M University. It was there that the "show-style" marching band tradition developed, more than 50 years ago, and it's the school from where most of Drumline LIVE's performers are based.
"The cast of Drumline LIVE are from all across the U.S., representing many of America's great HBCU marching bands," Roberts says. "But the majority of them are from Florida. The talent-base in the state of Florida for HBCU musicians is phenomenal."

Drumline LIVE, Roberts says, offers marching band fans the opportunity to see that talent in an intimate atmosphere.
"On the football field, you primarily hear the music and see the movements from a distance," he says. "In the theater, you see up close and personal the faces of the performers, giving you a stronger sense of their emotion and intensity."
