CANTON, OHIO (August 27, 2015) - While public parks are always a great place to enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hiking and bird watching, this summer they have also become a perfect place to enjoy live music! Summer Serenades in the Park, a partnership between the Canton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and Stark County Park District (SCPD) concludes with a FREE full orchestra concert on September 6 at 6:30pm at Petros Lake Park (3519 Perry Drive SW, Canton).

Since June, the spontaneous sounds of nature and people enjoying a park have combined with the orchestrated sounds of musicians. Small ensembles from the CSO have performed in six of Stark Parks' locations. "The Summer Serenades series has allowed our visitors to enjoy the parks in a whole new way," notes Jared Shive, SCPD Marketing Specialist, "and we are really looking forward to this final concert with the full orchestra." The series is sponsored in part by Mary Renkert Wendling Foundation, Fred and Virginia Olivieri, Canton Rotary Charitable Foundation, Medicine Center Pharmacy, Pat Miller, Young Truck Sales, and Greenlines Trucking.

The concert, set up in the amphitheater area of Petros Lake Park, will include music from popular films including Star Wars and Superman Returns, favorite classics such as Aaron Copland's Hoedown and Tchaikovsky's Overture of 1812, and patriotic marches. Rachel Waddell, Associate Conductor of the CSO will conduct the orchestra.

To further enhance the experience, pre-concert activities will begin at 5:00pm. Children may bring their favorite stuffed animal for a "checkup" by the Stark Parks Wildlife Center or build their own instrument from recycled materials. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chair or blanket and picnic food. Alcoholic beverages will be permitted in designated areas. Food concessions will also be on site.

The mission of the Stark County Park District is to acquire, preserve, and develop natural areas for passive recreation, conservation, education, and nature appreciation. Stark Parks offers more than 13 parks and 80 miles of hiking, bicycling, and equestrian trails and four lakes for boating, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.
