CANTON, OHIO (December 9, 2014) - The Canton Symphony Orchestra's SymphonyLand Series this year will feature "Splat the Cat" books by Rob Scotton and published by HarperCollins Publishers. The series of trio performances for children ages 3-6 introduces musical concepts along with basic reading and other academic material. Each performance features a different instrument trio and story book. The sequential learning series concludes with the Kinder Concert. All performances take place in the Cultural Center for the Arts - 1001 Market Ave N, Canton.

The String Trio will present the first performances on Wednesday January 7 and Saturday January 10. Their music will enhance the story Splat the Cat Dreams Big. "I really enjoy looking for books for the SymphonyLand Series," says Lisa Boyer, Director of Education and Community Engagement for the Canton Symphony. "The Splat the Cat books are colorful and offer lots of opportunities to incorporate early learning concepts in music, reading and other areas."

On February 11 and 14, the woodwind trio will perform along with the book Splat the Cat Goes to the Doctor and the brass trio performances on March 11 and 14 will feature Splat the Cat Oopsie Daisy. All of the trio performances are offered at 10:00 and 11:00am each day.

All of the SymphonyLand concepts and instrument families will come together on April 15 at 9:30 and 10:30am at the Kinder Concert which features the full orchestra. The program, conducted by the Assistant Conductor Rachel Waddell, will include Sergey Prokofiev's classic musical tale Peter and the Wolf.
