Alan Silvestri Headlines CSO's Film Music Festival, Beg. Today

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera previously announced Alan Silvestri will be the special guest film music composer for the 2014 Chattanooga International Film Music Festival, being held today, February 28 through March 2, 2014 in Chattanooga, TN. Alan Silvestri has scored over 80 films, including Back to the Future and its sequels, Predator, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, A Night at the Museum, Captain America and The Avengers. Silvestri was nominated for both an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Forrest Gump and The Polar Express. He has won three Grammy Awards for his work on The Bodyguard, Cast Away and Polar Express.

Alan Silvestri joins the Festival's Artistic Director, George S. Clinton, for a weekend of seminars with film music composers such as Clinton and Sundance Film Music Program director Peter Golub, a panel discussion moderated by BMI's Doreen Ringer Ross, a screening of Back to the Future followed by a discussion with Mr. Silvestri, as well as open rehearsals and two film music concerts with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera. This year's first concert is Academy Award-winning Singin' in the Rain. The entire movie will be shown with live accompaniment by the CSO. The second concert, Hooray for Hollywood, features Clinton's own Austin Powers Suite, Golub's These Amazing Shadows suite, the Back to the Future suite conducted by Silvestri, and additional popular film music conducted by CSO's Music Director Emeritus and Principal Pops Conductor, Bob Bernhardt.

"We are thrilled to feature the remarkable and award winning guest composer Alan Silvestri at this year's Chattanooga International Film Music Festival," stated Clinton. "For three glorious days we will be exploring and celebrating the art and magic that is film music."

Registration for the Chattanooga International Film Music Festival begins October 1. The cost for the full Festival is $195. Film, composing, and conducting students can attend for $50. Registration is at www.chattfilmmusic.com and seating is limited. Supporters for the event include BMI and the Sundance Film Music Program.

Over 60 students, aspiring film composers and movie enthusiasts attended last year's festival, which included a screening of film music documentary These Amazing Shadows and film concert with The Matrix, conducted by the film's composer, Don Davis.

About the CSO

The mission of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera is to inspire, engage, and enrich the greater Chattanooga community through music and music education.

The 2013-14 season marks 81 seasons for the CSO, which played its first concert on November 5, 1933. The Symphony consists of top players from the Chattanooga area as well as from across the southern region. The CSO performs a full season of Masterworks, Pops and Chamber concerts from September through May, as well as an annual Pops in the Park performance for the July 4th holiday.
