CAG's Concert Series to Feature Pianist Steven Lin at Weill Recital Hall, 2/11

Concert Artists Guild presents the exceptional pianist Steven Lin on Tuesday evening, February 11th at 7:30 p.m. at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The performance is part of CAG's 2013-14 Concerts in New York series, which showcases the winners of the 2012 Victor Elmaleh Competition at Weill Hall throughout the season. The concert features works by Bach, Debussy, Liszt, Schumann, and the world premiere of David Hertzberg's Notturno Incantato, commissioned by CAG.

A two-time winner of the Juilliard Pre-College Piano Competition, Mr. Lin established himself as a prodigy when he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic in Avery Fisher Hall at the age of 13. Since then he has appeared around the world at such important venues as the Louvre and Salle Cortot in France, National Dublin Hall in Ireland, Seoul Arts Center in Korea, and Sendai Cultural Center in Japan. His vibrant playing at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition was recognized both by the critics ("...thoroughly enjoyable both as music and as a performance"-Ft. Worth Star-Telegram) and the judges, who selected him for the John Giordano Jury Chairman Discretionary Award.

The budding young composer David Hertzberg is currently studying with Jennifer Higdon at the Curtis Institute of Music, having received such honors as the Arthur Friedman Prize from The Juilliard School, the William Schuman Prize from BMI, a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, an ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, an Aaron Copland Award from Copland House, and a Jerome Fund Commission from the American Composers Forum. In the summer of 2014 he will be a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center.

CAG provides support to a roster of talented artists during the critical and formative time between completion of formal studies and the achievement of an established career. Artists are selected through a rigorous multi-round annual competition open to traditional and non-traditional instrumentalists, ensembles and singers. CAG offers comprehensive management services including concert bookings and tour management, commissioning and recording opportunities and marketing and publicity support. Competition winners are also presented on the Concerts in New York at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The New Music/New Places initiative presents CAG artists in non-traditional venues such as bars, clubs and galleries, introducing diverse audiences to concert music. The CAG Records label enables roster musicians to get their music onto disc and into the marketplace. The CAG Commissioning Program ensures that classical music continues to be a living art form by fostering collaborations between performers and composers.
