Between Appear and Disappear is a new hybrid of photographs and poetic texts on beauty and love by Rice with accompanying music by Moss. It has been released by Jaded Ibis Productions concurrently with a CD of music intended as a companion for the book, composed and performed by Moss. At this combination CD/Book release event, Rice and Moss will present their work and discuss the collaborative process, offering readings from the text and a presentation of the accompanying music, and answering questions from the audience. Books and CDs will be available for purchase.

"When Doug first approached me to set portions of his manuscript to music, he expressed one desire - to hear his words sung in my voice," said Moss. "At that point, I had had the pleasure of hearing Doug Rice read from his writings on three occasions. Each time I heard him read, I found myself wanting for just one thing: I wanted the words to move more slowly. To be elongated. To be chanted."

Lidia Yuknavitch, author of The Chronology of Water and Dora: A Headcase, calls Between Appear and Disappear "a secular prayer, a body prayer, between seeing and saying, between experience and representation. It is the only book that I have ever read in my life that is truly corporeal, which is to say truly embodied by and through desire in language... It is an unforgettable and perfect book at a time when we need books to be exactly what they are, gloriously, unapologetically, mercifully, real."
