THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA
Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m.

The Philadelphia Orchestra and Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin launch Carnegie Hall's 2013-2014 season with a Gala Opening Night concert, performing Tchaikovsky's Slavonic March, Op. 31, Saint-Saëns's Bacchanale from Samson et Dalila, and Ravel's Boléro. Violinist Joshua Bell is featured in Saint-Saëns's Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28, and Ravel's Tzigane. Vocalist and double bassist Esperanza Spalding joins the orchestra for three works from her acclaimed album Chamber Music Society in new arrangements commissioned by Carnegie Hall, and arranged by Gil Goldstein.

THE NEW YORK POPS
Friday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m.

The New York Pops and Music Director Steven Reineke kick off their Carnegie Hall season with jazz trumpet superstar Chris Botti (pictured at right) in An Evening With Chris Botti, featuring his Grammy Award-nominated spin on favorites that include "Over the Rainbow," "Summertime," and "When I Fall in Love."

SPHINX VIRTUOSI / CATALYST QUARTET
Tuesday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m.

Presented by The Sphinx Organization in partnership with Carnegie Hall, Sphinx Virtuosi collaborates with the Catalyst Quartet for A Dialogue Between Two Eras that includes Britten's Simple Symphony, Op. 4; selections from Bach's Goldberg Variations, BWV 988; Paquito D'Rivera's Wapango; Jessie Montgomery's Strum; Vivaldi's Concerto in G Minor for Two Cellos, Strings, and Continuo; and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson's Sinfonietta No. 1. Violinist Adé Williams is also featured in Perkinson's Louisiana Blues Strut: A Cakewalk, for Solo Violin.

The Mariinsky Orchestra performs three concerts in celebration of Music Director Valery Gergiev's 60th birthday. Each concert focuses on a different Russian composer with repertoire that is closely associated with Maestro Gergiev: Stravinsky (ballets The Firebird,Pétrouchka, and Le sacre du printemps) on October 10; Shostakovich (Piano Concerto No. 1 with Denis Matsuev and Symphony No. 8) onOctober 11; and Rachmaninoff (Piano Concerto No. 3 with Mr. Matsuev and Symphonic Dances) on October 15.

British soprano Carolyn Sampson gives a recital of works by Purcell, joined by viola da gamba player Beiliang Zhu, lutist Paul O'Dette, and harpsichordist Kenneth Weiss.

Jazz pianist Jon Batiste, a member of the legendary Louisiana Batiste lineage of musicians, collaborates with his Stay Human band, known for their impromptu performances throughout New York City.

THE MET ORCHESTRA

Music Director James Levine leads The MET Orchestra in Verdi's Overture to I vespri Siciliani, Elliott Carter's Variations for Orchestra, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92. Special guest mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato joins the orchestra and Maestro Levine to perform Rossini's Giovanna d'Arco (arr. by Salvatore Sciarrino) and arias from Mozart's La clemenza di Tito.

THE SILK ROAD ENSEMBLE with Yo-Yo Ma

The Silk Road Ensemble and Artistic Director Yo-Yo Ma return to Carnegie Hall in celebration of its 15th anniversary with a program including the New York premieres of John Zorn's Suite from Book of Angels, Vijay Iyer's Playlist for an Extreme Occasion, and David Bruce's Cut the Rug, as well as performances of past Ensemble favorites: Angel Lam's Empty Mountain, Spirit Rain; Giovanni Sollima's The Taranta Project; and Jia Daqun's The Prospect of Colored Desert.

The Angel Heart Music Foundation in partnership with Carnegie Hall presents a Family Concert entitled Angel Heart, a story of a young girl who finds peace after heartbreak with the help of a petulant guardian angel. The performance has familiar songs and lullabies with story byCornelia Funke, and new music by composer LUna Pearl Woolf and features Matt Haimovitz and Uccello, soprano Lisa Delan, mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, countertenor Daniel Taylor, baritoneBruce Rameker, mandolin player Avi Avital, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

ENSEMBLE ACJW

Ensemble ACJW launches its Carnegie Hall season on Monday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Weill Recital Hall, playing the premiere of a new work by Andy Akiho, commissioned by Carnegie Hall, in addition to Dvorák's String Quartet in G Major, Op. 77, and works by Monteverdi, Stuart Breczinski, Thomas Bergeron, and Doug Balliett. (The program is also presented on Friday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m. at Ladd Concert Hall at the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.)

Mandolin virtuoso, composer, and vocalist Chris Thile, of Punch Brothers, performs solo violin works by J. S. Bach drawn from his forthcoming recording, Bach Sonatas & Partitas Vol. 1, as well as his own compositions and contemporary music that encompass his broad musical outlook, spanning progressive bluegrass, classical, rock, and jazz.

PROGRAM UPDATE:
Kapustin's Variations for Piano, Op. 41, and Chopin's Nocturne in C Minor, Op. 48, No. 1 replaces Chopin's Fantasy in F Minor, Op. 49, and Nocturne in C Minor, Op. 27, No. 1 on pianist Yuja Wang's solo recital. The remainder of the program remains unchanged, and includes Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 28, Stravinsky's Three Movements from Pétrouchka, and Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 3 in B Minor, Op. 58, and Ballade No. 3 in A-flat Major, Op. 47.

STANDARD TIME WITH Michael Feinstein

Five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer, pianist, and renowned interpreter of the Great American Songbook Michael Feinsteinlaunches his annual Carnegie Hall series, Standard Time with Michael Feinstein. Guest artists and program are to be announced.

Continuing Carnegie Hall's celebration of Britten 100, Pablo Heras-Casado (pictured at right) conducts the Orchestra of St. Luke's in a performance of Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, Op. 31, featuring tenor Ian Bostridge and French horn player Stewart Rose, in addition to Mendelssohn's Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream, Op. 21, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9 in E-flat Major, Op. 70.

TETZLAFF QUARTET

The Tetzlaff Quartet returns to Carnegie Hall with a program including Haydn's String Quartet in C Major, Op. 20, No. 2; Bartók's String Quartet No. 4; and Beethoven's String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132.

Kicking off its three-concert Orchestra Underground series, American Composers Orchestra welcomes conductor Robert Spano (pictured at right), who leads a program featuring the world premieres of Ian Williams's Clear Image No. 1 and Peter Fahey's A Mirror to Kathleen's Face, as well as Julia Wolfe's Fuel (with film by Bill Morrison) andChristopher Theofanidis's Bassoon Concerto featuring soloist Martin Kuuskmann.

Known for her larger-than-life stage personality and fearsome dance chops, Eva Ayllón, the "Queen of landó," a traditional Afro-Peruvian musical form, infuses her music with colorful sounds from the coastal plains of Lima, as well as her country's indigenous, African, and Spanish musical heritage.

PROGRAM UPDATE:
A program has been announced for soprano Jessica Rivera and mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor's joint recital with frequent collaborator Robert Spano at the piano. It includes the New York premieres of David Bruce's "That Time With You" and Jonathan Leshnoff's Monica Songs, both co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, the New York premiere of Gabriela Lena Frank's Kitchen Songs, plus music by Saint-Saëns, Mompou, Gounod, and Mendelssohn.

As part of his two-season, cross-venue Bach project, pianist András Schiff performs the complete Partitas on October 30 and a program pairing the Goldberg Variations with Beethoven's Thirty-Three Variations on a Waltz by Diabelli on November 5.
