In the months prior to WWII, nearly 10,000 Jewish children were evacuated out of Germany, Poland, Austria, and Czechoslovakia and sent to safety in England, without their parents. Privately funded by British citizens, the Kindertransport organizers successfully placed these children in English foster homes. Nearly every parent who sent their child on the train told them they would soon follow, but of course, very few were able, as war was declared not long after and Jews were rounded up and sent to concentration camps.

Though Zinser's novel is a work of fiction, her characters represent a collection of actual Kindertransport children. Many of the events depicted in the novel are based on actual events that took place during the time. While this novel is intended for a young adult audience, it's a story sure to capture the hearts of readers age 12 and up.

"I could not put this book down. These children's stories take an unbelievable journey through gut-wrenching sorrow and horrifying pain, yet explodes with their raw courage and brute determination to survive and hang on to hope. This book is inspirational, informative, interesting and should be read by all ages." - Charles J. Weber, Weber Communications, Los Angeles.

Reflecting on what inspired her to write the book, author Jana Zinser says, "I think the story of the Kindertransport children and the families left behind may be one of the greatest stories of all time. The evil that forced the unthinkable separation of children from their parents, the goodness of the mothers and fathers who gave up everything so that their children could live, and the kindness of England to take these children into their homes is unparalleled. Since the moment I heard their historic tale, they have not left my mind. The Kindertransport children came to live in my conscience and would not leave until I told their story."

Jana Zinser is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire School of Law and received her masters in Journalism from the University of Iowa. Her past work includes serving as chief of staff to the senate majority leader in Iowa, press secretary to a congressman in Washington, DC, and program principal at the National Conference of State Legislators.

Zinser's wish for everyone who read this book is for them to see how injustice affects us all, and possibly find the courage to stand up for others whether it is a bully on the playground or in corporate America, or in a land far away like Darfur.
