"Somebody Is Watching Over Me": a faith-inspiring children's story of success in the face of failure. "Somebody Is Watching Over Me" is the creation of published author, Vanessa Ballew, the oldest of three siblings. Her parents are Michael and Thelma Parks. Her father is with the Lord. She has a sister, Mica Parks, who has a son named Micah Brown. She has another sister named Tesha Parks. She has one brother, Adrian Parks, who has one daughter, Adriana Parks. Vanessa grew up in Dayton, Ohio. She later moved to Richmond, Kentucky. She is married to Floyd Ballew. They have one daughter together named Arrie'l Ballew. Vanessa has a step daughter named Tiasha Hayden. Tiasha is married to Qareeb Hayden. They have two daughters whose names are Qareeana and Taniyah. Vanessa is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.

Her children's book was inspired by the fact that she, like the main character in this book, did not like to sleep by herself when she was a young girl. She slept with her parents. When her parents put her to bed, she was sad, and she cried. Her bed was next to a window. It took a while for her to get over that fear. As a result of her experience, she can better relate to children, especially when they say "I'm scared." She understands their fear.

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Vanessa Ballew's new book is about a five-year-old girl named Carrie. She finds herself leaning on her parents, unable to face her fears. Her world is turned upside-down when her parents want her to sleep in her own bed. Carrie is not ready to sleep in her own bed. She hasn't shared this fear with her parents. Carrie is planning to deal with her fear on her own. Carrie is happy and her plan works, for a little while. Then, one day, Carrie's parents have a talk with her and she is no longer happy; mom and Dad decide Carrie is going to sleep in her own bed. The great part about the story is Carrie is able to conquer her fear.
