The 3rd annual World Book Night US will be held on April 23rd this year. Part of the World Book Night Global franchise, an international effort to promote reading books for pleasure, the 2014 celebration and promotion of reading will feature the 2013 USA Best Book Awards Winner, in their Visionary Fiction Category, "The Raven's Warrior," the first novel by author Vincent Pratchett.

As explained at their website, http://www.us.worldbooknight.org, "World Book Night was the product of a round table discussion at London's Book Industry Conference in May 2010, the purpose of which was to imagine a way to encourage more adults to read. What better way to spread a love for reading than to inspire passionate readers to go out into their communities and share copies of their favorite books with those who don't regularly read?" The result of this thinking was the creation of World Book Night, first celebrated in the UK and Ireland in 2011. Since then, and for the third consecutive year on the 23rd of this month, some "25,000 passionate volunteers across America [will] give a total of half a million books within their communities to those who don't regularly read." Chosen by an independent panel of librarians and booksellers, the authors of 30-35 selected books are asked to waive their royalties while publishers agree to cover the cost of producing the specially-printed World Book Night U.S. editions. Then, local bookstores and libraries across the country offer themselves as community host locations for the volunteer book givers who, choosing form the list of selections, will "personally hand out 20 copies of a particular title in their community. Givers pick up their books in the week before World Book Night. On April 23rd, they give their books to those who don't regularly read and/or people who don't normally have access to printed books."

This year, one of the books that made the list of World Book Night US selections is "The Raven's Warrior," a 2013 USA Best Book Awards Winner for Best Visionary Fiction, by Vincent Pratchett. This is the first novel by Mr. Pratchett, from the independent publishing company, YMAA Publications Center, Inc. Sponsored by the Los Angeles-based online media company USA Book News, the USA Best Book Awards are an annual program designed to support authors and publishers in promoting their books. The 2013 awards marked a decade of awarding the efforts of authors and independent publishers for their commitment to quality writing and book publishing, in more than 100 categories, including fiction and non-fiction. "Our panel of industry judges continues to deliver fantastic results on an annual basis! Hundreds of titles have received national media coverage and increased sales as a direct result of placing in the USA Best Book Awards! Many titles that have placed in our award's program have gone on to place in other contests geared toward the independent press," said Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of USA Book News. Entries for the 11th annual Best Book Awards are now being taken, with a deadline of September 30, 2014.

World Book Night US is an effort to promote reading among those who do not read regularly. Similarly, the annual USA Best Book Awards given by USA Book News is an effort to promote the work of budding authors and independent publishers to the reading public in the ever-changing, often confusing, and increasingly competitive book publishing marketplace. The decision to include the maiden work of an emerging author is evidence of the commitment of both organizations to the ongoing promotion of interesting reading experiences.

Located in Los Angeles and Phoenix, USA Book News is involved in numerous aspects of the publishing and entertainment industries, particularly in the form of their annual USA Best Book Awards Program.
