When twin sisters Anna and Maryn Joseph decided they wanted to write a book, they didn't realize they were part of a growing trend of children authors; they just wanted to share a story they'd dreamt up with their younger sisters. But with the publication of their book A Dog Named Tulip (Bully! Pulpit Books); the sweet story of a puppy found in a field of flowers and presented as a timely Mother's Day gift, they soon learned they were joining a growing trend of children's books written by children.

"We didn't know it was trendy, we just wanted to share the story with other children," noted thirteen year old Anna of the story she and her sister first wrote when they were nine. "Kids know what other kids are interested in and who better to write a story for other kids than kids?"

The two enlisted the help of their friend Paloma Collins who provided the artwork for the book and continued to develop the story. The eldest of five girls, the Joseph twins grew up in a house filled with storytelling.

"We were read to by our parents from the beginning of our lives and we love great stories," says Maryn Joseph. "We hope our book will be read by parents to their children or by children themselves."

The most recent statistics indicate that 29,000 children's books are published each year, although those written by children are a far smaller number. Some of the most famous books written by children include "The Diary of a Young Girl," by Anne Frank, and more recently the Inheritance Cycle series written by Christopher Paolini; a four-book series beginning with "Eragon," written when he was just 15 years old.
