Unfortunately though, this representation has also created the stereotype that Asian-American parents constantly pressure their kids to be the best in academics. About the Author
Michael M. Morisaki is a Japanese-American retired physician, attorney and real estate broker. He was born on Maui, Hawai'i, in 1927 and spent most of his childhood in an orphanage. He relied on the GI Bill to cover his educational expenses. He received his BS magna cum laude from Marquette University and his MD with distinction from the University of Michigan Medical School. He interned at the Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC and served his residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic. He practiced medicine in Los Angeles for 36 years. At age 51, he received his JD from the evening division of Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He invested in real estate in five states. In 1954, he married Japanese-American Helen Hieda of Maui at St.Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. They have six children, all with bachelor degrees, two with MDs and one, a JD, and six grandchildren. In 1997, he won the annual James Clavell Literary Award for his short story, Returning Alone to Maui. He has four published novellas: MD-JD, Sex Comes in Different Packages, The Being and Childhood on Maui.
