Many believe today's political system is not what the Founding Fathers' envisioned for America. In fact, several of the today's governing practices were deliberately omitted from the Constitution, in particular the party system. Author Thomas Peterson returns readers to the original goals of the United States Constitution and discusses the degradation of American politics in "The Right to Nominate: Restoring Power of the People Over the Power of the Parties."

In "The Right to Nominate," Peterson reveals the intended design of the Constitution and describes the Framers' strong conviction to prevent a government by parties. Peterson presents how the current two-party system came to dominate the political landscape by exploiting a loophole in the Constitution, allowing them to control the nomination of political candidates and thereby maintain power. He also depicts the turbulent history of political parties and the potential consequences of letting America continue to be divided by partisan lines.

"America is no longer a government of the people, but a government of the parties," Peterson said. "There is this false sense of freedom when it comes to voting. You do not have the freedom to vote for who you want, you are only free to vote for who the parties nominate. With Right to Nominate, I want to highlight how the current system has achieved power by taking the people's sovereignty from them. Also, how it is possible to put elections back into the hands of the people, as the Framers intended it."

"Right to Nominate" provides Constitutional breakthroughs and discoveries that will help government navigate away from party control and return power to the America people. Peterson believes it starts by returning the right to nominate to its original owners, the American people.
