Last month, The Reading Room and People's Choice Awards partnered to bring books to an even wider audience through an online vote on TheReadingRoom.com. Readers from around the world selected their favorite books (published in 2015) in six different categories.

Kristin Hannah took the fiction award for "The Nightingale," the story of two sisters in WWII France-which is getting an adaptation with Ann Peacock ("The Chronicles of Narnia") to write the screenplay. Actor and comedian Mindy Kaling's second hilarious book of essays "Why Not Me?" won the nonfiction category, and Karin Slaughter's "Pretty Girls," which tells the story of two sisters and their attempt to uncover the disappearance of their other sister 20 years ago, received the crime & mystery award.

Colleen Hoover championed the romance category with "Confess," a book about a woman who takes a chance on love only to find that there's a big secret threatening to destroy the relationship, and the hit debut (which has already been acquired for film and has a sequel coming out in August) "An Ember in the Ashes" by Sabaa Tahir, explores a very different ancient Rome and took the fantasy category. The young adult category went to "Red Queen"-Victoria Aveyard's debut about a society in which you're separated by the color of your blood. Aveyard has signed on to write four books in the series and Elizabeth Banks is in talks to direct the adaptation.

"We are delighted with the results. Books are an important part of our lives and this partnership takes us one step further to ensuring that they remain at the heart of storytelling and the genesis of other forms of popular culture," said Kim Anderson, CEO of The Reading Room.

The Reading Room is proud to partner with People's Choice in order to bring books to a wider audience. The shortlist and winners can be viewed at TheReadingRoom.com and PeoplesChoice.com. Also, see the original announcement here.
