Tal Ben-Shahar, Ph.D., author of The New York Times bestseller "Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment" is staging his first ever New York weekend workshop open to the general public. The workshop is designed to help people get happier using the principles of positive psychology, the science of happiness..

Ben-Shahar was nicknamed the "Harvard Happiness Professor" after teaching the most popular class at Harvard University (Positive Psychology) in 2006. He knows that, regardless of outside circumstances - and especially in an uncertain world people want to get happier and achieve satisfaction in their lives.

"Things do not necessarily happen for the best, but some people are able to make the best of things that happen," says Ben-Shahar.

Did you know that...
...there are real benefits to getting happier? First, it feels good to feel good. Moreover, getting happier leads to more success, higher creativity, better relationships (personal and professional), and better health.
...brushing your teeth twice a day is evidence that you can introduce lasting change through rituals a key to becoming happier?
...working up a sweat several times a week through physical exercise can be as effective as taking an anti-depressant?
...if you express gratitude or show appreciation, you may enjoy higher levels of emotional and physical well-being?

These are just some of the things participants will learn during this immersion weekend. Integrating theory and practice as well as Eastern and Western philosophies and psychology, attendees will learn how to use the most effective tools available today to feel more connected, fulfilled, and, yes, happier.

While the material will be beneficial to all levels of study, it is especially geared to beginners. Participants will leave with a set of principles they can begin to use immediately.

"Most people believe that success leads to happiness, while actually the opposite is true. Increase your levels of happiness and you're likely to become more successful," says Ben-Shahar.

Since the success of his Harvard course, Ben-Shahar has spent much of the last decade consulting and lecturing around the world to corporations, schools, at-risk populations, and the general public on the effectiveness of positive psychology in daily life.

With the continued uncertainty in the world, he recently relocated to the U.S. to be more readily available for speaking, consulting and teaching to his North American clients.

"Get Happier this Fall with Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar" is produced by Speaking Matters. The event takes place at the JCC in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Ave. at 76th St., New York, NY 10023 and runs Friday night, September 23 from 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, September 24 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, September 25 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Single tickets are available and group sales discounts are offered for groups of 10 or more.
