Author Lorraine Bassett believes man's deepest connections to Spirit exist in their most aboriginal forms. She drives this point home in her spiritual book, "The Vine of the Soul" (published by Balboa Press), in which she recounts the things she learned about the spirit world from shamans in the Amazon rain forest. Her book is pursuing a wider audience this year through press materials and a promotional tour.

Bassett's passion and curiosity for all things spiritual led her to the Amazon, where she lived with the Shipibo shamans. The shamans took Bassett into their sacred space, where they ritualistically use the ayahuasca vine to commune with the spirit realm - an experience she would never forget.

Throughout "The Vine of the Soul," Bassett discusses her many spiritual experiences with the Shipibo shamans. She then reflects on how these experiences shaped her overall understanding of spirituality, faith and even God.

"We each have immense, often untapped, power within us that can only be awakened when we quiet the noise of the so-called real world," Bassett says. "With that power we can manifest the change we want in both our personal lives and the world we live in."
