Author Singa Krishnamoorti seeks to clear up a lack of clarity he has observed between people differentiating mind and consciousness as well as religion and spirituality through his new book, "THE POWER OF INFINITE JOY: self-knowledge through Spirituality and Science" (published by Balboa Press). He hopes to elevate the status of psychiatry and improve the treatment of the emotionally afflicted.

"Psychiatry is in a peculiar situation where they want to understand and study psychological problems very similar to physical medicine, which is engaged in finding the causes for biological changes brought on by various factors like infections, deficiencies and defects of the biology," Krishnamoorti says; "however, psychological factors are subtler than the subtlest virus and are not available for any microscope."

Krishnamoorti explains his belief that lasting relief from stress can only be attained through the knowledge of one's own real nature. While people resort to auxiliary activities like yoga meditation for their stress relief, these are a means to an end, and not the end for which people are actually searching.

Through a better understanding of the differences between mind and consciousness, as well as spirituality and religion, Krishnamoorti says those afflicted with emotional problems can be more readily helped to become free of the bondage of the material world and attain wholeness and their missing, true identity.
