Congress passes a law stating that those over 70 who are incapable of caring for themselves are to be euthanized. Jake, a journalist, investigates the effects of this new law, while Julia, a veteran congressional staffer, is determined to fight the law and save her parents who, under the "death law," could be put to death. "The Death Law" (published by Archway Publishing) explores themes revolving around an aging population, healthcare and the cost of social security, as well as the right to die.

Author Claire Cole Curcio says she was inspired to write by the current controversy in Congress surrounding health care legislation in addition to an innate desire to help those who are in nursing homes in hopeless situations.

"The Death Law" juxtaposes its premise with pages brimming with facts; this provides the novel with a more tangible threat, centered in reality, and allows the reader to be captivated by the story while acquiring knowledge concerning American healthcare.

Curcio hopes her book will encourage readers to consider the current state of affairs and prepare for end-of-life decisions. More information is available at: http://www.clairecurcio.com/.
