Bhanmatee Sita Gobin, author of the captivating historical memoir "Bombay Kay Dulahin," returns to the world of literature with the release of "The Bride from Bombay" (published by Xlibris). In her latest novel, she seamlessly blends fact with fiction to recreate the struggles and triumphs of a woman, Sumintra, caught in the staggering rush of the Indian Diaspora.

"The Bride from Bombay" unfolds during the turn of the 19th century, a time when a widespread migration swept across India. At the center of it all is Sumintra, a woman modeled after the author's own mother, who grows up with her immigrant East Indian parents in the emerging cosmopolitan society of Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies.

At 16 years old, Sumintra finds herself forced into an arranged marriage with little more than a first grade education and an unquenchable dream of a better life. The author's story charts the heroine's remarkable journey - one that not only changes her life but challenges the gender and social norms of the era. It vividly describes the immigrant experience and the struggles of men and women grappling with their sense of identity in an unknown and unfamiliar land where the terrain was dangerous and the landscape precipitous.

Deeply moving, insightful and beautifully told, "The Bride from Bombay" is an unforgettable tale of a golden era. It takes us on a journey of ancient traditions, family ties and the endurance of human resilience and spirit and what happens when these forces are tested.
