Simon and Schuster Children's Books Acquires New Teen Series From Jeff Povey

12th December 2013-Simon and Schuster Children's Books today announced the acquisition of a new teen series from TV and film scriptwriter, Jeff Povey.

S&S acquired World English Language rights in three books from Rebecca Watson at Valerie Hoskins Associates. The first book is entitled Shift, and will be published in paperback and eBook on 24th April 2014, with the second and third novels to follow at 8-10 month intervals.

The high-concept series, packed with action, adventure and plenty of humour, follows a motley crew of bickering teens after a strange power surge hits their classroom during detention. Finding themselves totally alone in the world and with no answers as to why or how this happened the mismatched group are soon facing an even bigger nightmare. Standing between them and the only way home are lethal duplicate versions of themselves, super powered teenagers who will kill anyone who gets in their way. Our unlikely heroes must somehow work together to save themselves... or they'll never see home again.

Author Jeff Povey is an award-winning screenwriter. As well as several original TV dramas and feature films he has also written over 150 episodes of Eastenders and for Casualty, Holby, Grange Hill and Silent Witness as well as co-creating the recent By Any Means. Shift is his debut teen novel.

Jane Griffiths, Commissioning Editor at S&S said: "Jeff Povey is a
terrific talent with huge potential in the world of children's fiction. I was completely bowled over by the brilliance of Shift when I first read it. Jeff's background as a script writer shines through as the characters and dialogue just spring from the page, and the twists and turns of the plot will keep readers on their toes until the last sentence."
