The joys and perils of young love take center stage in "Casanova: A College Tale" (published by AuthorHouse), the new book by Simon Karanja.

The story is set in a college in South Africa where the main character, Jimmy Clyde, meets the love of his life, Sophia, but heartbreak is in store when Sophia, the only girl to truly know his heart, leaves for good. Jimmy spirals out of control after Sophia leaves, turning himself into a Casanova, until he meets Summer, an emotionally fragile girl who believes Jimmy is her soul mate. Taken aback by Summer's strong feelings, Jimmy decides to distance himself from Summer, a decision that has disastrous consequences when Summer decides to kill herself.

"This is a book about finding something real then losing it because you weren't ready for it," explains Karanja, who admits that much of the book was distilled from his own experiences."I was trying to get over a relationship when I decided to write this book," he shares. "I thought it would be a good idea to direct my energy towards something constructive in order to help me move on with my life."

Karanja writes "Casanova" in poetic verse.

An excerpt from the book:

"When I saw the look on her face,
I knew then, she really did love me.
The look of pain and frustration covered by a plain expression,
But I saw in her eyes the look of desolation...
The last night we spent together,
We laid together and fell asleep like we died together.
Without words we spoke to each other,
Caressing to comfort one another,
Me and my Dopaliscious angel, so close, this love's a powerful force,
We could die for one another."
