OTIS ORCHARDS, Wash.

Shari Chappell marks her debut in the world of literature with "A Life Worth Living" (published by Xlibris). Peopled by richly drawn characters, this new novel follows a young woman's exceptional coming-of-age in 19th century Missouri.

The story is centered on Mattie, a vibrant young girl whose life takes an unexpected turn when a violent tragedy leaves her crippled. In spite of her heartbreaking circumstances, Mattie is determined to break free from her limitations and live like a normal person. Her best friend, Jesse, helps her along the way, offering her friendship and strength during some of the most trying moments in her life. In light of Mattie's experiences and interactions, readers examine issues such as human relationships, love and race.

"A Life Worth Living" is a deeply moving story that captures the indomitable human spirit. First-time author Chappell has succeeded in crafting, out of the unimaginable tragedy, a powerful tale of resilience and hope.
