NBC Sports Group NASCAR features reporter Rutledge Wood will join NBC Sports Group for its coverage of the 2016 Kentucky Derby next week from Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY.

Similar to his role on NASCAR telecasts -- reporting on the sport's storied raceways, unique towns and enthusiastic fans -- Wood will delve into what makes The Kentucky Derby one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. In addition, Wood will serve as a reporter on the pink carpet for the Kentucky Oaks (Friday, May 6, 12:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN), and the red carpet for the Kentucky Derby (Saturday, May 7, 4 p.m. ET on NBC).

"Rutledge is a true entertainer, and his humor combined with his storytelling ability will be a excellent addition to our Kentucky Derby coverage" said Rob Hyland, Coordinating Producer for NBC Sports Group's Triple Crown horse racing coverage.

"It has always been a dream to attend the Kentucky Derby, and that dream is coming true," said Wood. "For someone that follows racing for NBC, to visit the pinnacle of horse racing is going to be a huge thrill for me!"

Wood contributes to NBC Sports Group's multiplatform coverage of NASCAR, Formula 1, IndyCar, Global Rallycross and Mecum Auctions. He has hosted and co-hosted several NASCAR events, including the annual NASCAR Awards Banquet. Wood also co-hosts History Channel's Top Gear.

NBC Sports Group's live Kentucky Derby coverage begins Wednesday, May 4 with the Kentucky Derby Draw at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

NBC SPORTS GROUP AND HORSE RACING: NBC Sports Group is the exclusive home to the most important and prestigious events in horse racing, including the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup. NBC has been the exclusive home of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness STAKES since 2001, and the Belmont STAKES since 2011, when the NBC Sports Group reassembled the Triple Crown.
