Stories are told for many reasons. With stories, people are able to capture and share experiences, impart valuable lessons and even give inspiration to others. Robert N. Taylor tells the story of his life for these exact same reasons. His memoir, "Getting Through," is more than a memoir of personal events, it is a universal tale of self-discovery and a journey into the heart of the human condition with essays on philosophy, psychology, religion, nature and nurture, government, warfare and meaning of it all.

"Getting Through" is the story of an ordinary, undistinguished and retired aeronautical engineer but the author is not an ordinary storyteller. A witty and thoroughly engaging narrator, Taylor guides readers on a journey through the joie de vivre of his childhood and youth, his transition to adulthood, his thwarted flying career, his exploits in the Air Force, the highs and lows of his marriage and finally to where he is today: a place of thoughtful reflection and contentment. This memoir is replete with wit, wisdom and ignorance and it tells readers that no life is ever ordinary and that every person's story is worth telling.

Sometimes funny, sometimes poignant and always compelling, "Getting Through" is at once a story of a life well lived and a triumphant testament of the human spirit. It is personally valuable and universally significant.
