Travis Nelson is a highly successful yet arrogant Texas real estate mogul. When he finds his career on unstable ground for the first time, he is approached by Rodolfo Morales, a Mexican drug kingpin who sees an opportunity in Travis's border properties. The two strike the "Durango Deal" and all goes according to plan - for a while.

"After working for many years in real estate development and observing up close the giant egos of many of the captains of that industry, I thought it would be fascinating to pit that style largely based on intimidation against the authoritarian approach of a drug lord, whose power is rooted in violence," author Robert J. DeLuca explains.

In "The Pact with the Devil" (published by Archway Publishing), Travis and Rodolfo's arrangement begins to unravel and the DEA is soon hot on Travis's trail. As things begin to spiral out of control, Rodolfo moves to eliminate his deceitful American partner. However, the two men discover that they're linked by a mutual debt they never realized they owed.

Of his readers, DeLuca says, "I would like them to have enjoyed a fast moving read with a healthy respect (for) how an obsession can bring down the very successful along with their families."
